So after a ridiculously long flight, with a 2hour stop over in LA, all 70 of us gappies arrived at Heathrow at 10ish in the morning very tired and very hungry, plan food is really gross! We soon hopped on some busses which took us all to Reeding University, where we met all the Aussie gappies as well. Everyone was split into groups depending on the area that their placement was in, so i was with people going to Home Counties North, we talked a bit about traveling, saving and things to do and see. I also got the chance to meet Vallance (not Vladamir) the guy who is also at WBH for the year, he's pretty cool so far, really chill and friendly. After dinner (luckily i knew some people from Auckland and the orientation so I didn't have to sit by myself and yes mum I was friendly and did talk to people) a pub quiz was organised but I was so tired from the flight that I bailed early and was in bed by 7:30. The next day Vallance and I got picked up by Keith, principal of WBH, who drove us to the school. The speed limit is clearly not followed much over here and the traffic lights are weird. The drive was about 40min, so we got to see a bit of the countryside, we also drove past Windsor Castle which was cool. We arrived at WBH and were given some time to unpack our bags, Vallance was really nice and gave me the bigger bedroom, then we went to lunch in the dinning room, and after we got straight into it helping out with PE, I helped out year 5 & 6 with hockey, not that I have ever playing in my life. We were given a bit more free time so I just chilled in my room and watched TV, then Andrew Grundy, who looks after us gappies, took us down to the local pub for dinner. It was so cute and totally different to what we have in NZ, I got fish and chips though so it felt a bit like being back home :) The weather over here is pretty miserable, but not as cold as I expected, the time difference, however, means that I am nacked by 5pm and wide awake at 3am. Its going to take a while to get used to things over here but so far I'm really excited for what is to come. Love you and miss you all xxx
